Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is an autonomous body under the Ministry of H.R.D, Government of India which was started way back in 1965 for the benefit of the children of transferable employees of the Government of India.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Regional Office Kolkata come into existence in the year 1980. It is situated at EB Block, Laboni, Sector-I, Salt Lake City, Kolkata – 700 064.
1073 schools are located allover India under 18 different regions with it's headquarters in New Delhi as on 1st September, 2009. K.V.S KOLKATA REGION is one among the 18 regions which connects 62 Kendriya Vidyalayas dotted on the landscape of West Bengal ( 58 Kendriya Vidyalayas), Sikkim( 02 Kendriya Vidyalaya) & A & N Island ( 02 Kendriya Vidyalayas). All these 62 Kendriya Vidyalayas are having a total student strength of 10,30,654 as on 31st March, 2010. Out of 62 K.Vs, 25 are in Defence Sector, 06 in Project Sector, 29 Civil Sector and 02 are in Institution of Higher Learning. KVS(HQ), New Delhi declared 03 Kendriya Vidyalayas under Kolkata Region as “ HARD STATION K.V “ viz. 1) K.V. Hasimara in Jalpaiguri District, West Bengal, 2) K.V. Teesta L.D. Project(Rambi) in Darjeeling District, West Bengal & 3) Kalimpong in Darjeeling District, West Bengal.
Since inception the Kendriya Vidyalayas of this Region are considered as centers of excellence in the field of secondary and senior secondary education promoting national integration and a sense of "INDIANNESS" among the children while ensuring their total personality development and academic excellence. All our Kendriya Vidyalayas are affiliated to CBSE.
